"While we have no intention of telling Kenyans how to vote, we only ask voters to be wary of politicians who turn a blind eye on animal abuse as this is how they would treat the most vulnerable. We cannot make progress as a nation without caring for the weakest including animals.
The Association wishes to state categorically that, even though most animals cannot tell us how they feel, animals are not mere property but sentient beings with capacity to feel and remember emotions including pain, fear and anxiety.
Going forward, the Kenya Veterinary Association will not hesitate to petition the Director of Public Prosecutions to prosecute culprits, failure to which, we shall launch private prosecution to ensure that animals within our jurisdiction live a life worth living.
We urge Parliament to hasten the enactment of the Animal Welfare and Protection Bill, 2019 that provides for a better framework and more stringent penalties for animal welfare violations."
